How You Can Help
Consider these eye-opening stats and then how easy it can be for you to help and save lives.
Blood transfusions per day
Allogenic Bone marrow transplants per year
BMT patients needing a non-family donor
Join Be The Match
Austin is alive thanks to a selfless, random donor from Germany and Be The Match.
Thousands of patients with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, sickle cell anemia or other life-threatening diseases depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a match to save their life. Patients need donors who are a genetic match. Even with a registry of millions, many patients cannot find a match.
Give Blood
HLH and bone marrow transplant patients use various amounts of blood products. Mason used over 2,400 in his fight for life.
Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person – the gift of life. A decision to donate your blood can save a life, or even several. Please remember someone needs blood every two seconds and there are 14,000 patients waiting on a donor to appear in the marrow database. You can give blood as often as every 56 days!
Donate to Mason Spencer Lives On
Each year the foundation presents a $500 scholarship to a graduating Tri-Valley student and a $75 award to an 8th grade basketball player at Tri-Valley. In addition, we send funds as we can to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) for research. Fortunately we are able to work with the doctors and choose the projects the funds are directed to. Currently research efforts targeted are ones which would benefit those in Mason’s situation (XLP2, GVHD, or HLH related)
